Epagneul nain Continental (Papillon)

There has been lot of discussion about the size and type in papillons lately but looks like people are not that interested about this subject. Looks like in some nordic countries and eastern european countries and especially in russia the overall size and bone size has crown dramatically in the last ten, fifteen years or so. What do we have left if the little elegant and dainty butterfly dog will be distroyed by the ignorance and fashion ?

Personally i am very worried that this wonderful breed will chance to the wrong direction. I have noticed that in these countries population is getting bigger and people show their dogs very much. So called "good reach and drive" ( handlers running in the ring ) , big puffy coats and strong bones is really a big problem. The breedstandard should be respected and even there are some slight differences in the standard versus Fci, Usa or Uk we still must respect the fact that this is a small elegant stylish toydog with wonderful history. In the past in the history they have always been small and pretty and this is something we must not forget.

I wanted to share this over 30 yrs old photo of this world famous dog, Smaragden Poker Face, who in my opinion was so wonderful and typey. He won champion titles in Sweden, Norway, Usa and Japan and was all-breed best in show winner as well. He was a epitome of the standard of his own time. Here he is pictured as a young dog wich shows beautifully his qualities. Headshot is taken by Arne Hansson (Silenzio's fame) and look that balance of everything, sametime masculine but elegant. Correct propotion in the head with skull and nose. large well set ears making him really look like a butterfly. Beautiful mandel formed eyes. In the standing picture (taken by the legendary Per Unden) its shows the correct balance and propotions in the body. Full of elegance. Lovely outline and correct tailset giving the silhuett. And enough coat still showing the so important side picture , silhuett.

He could still be even today the big winner and quality example of the breed ! A true Papillon !
