GREAT PAPILLONS FROM THE PAST by Vesa Toivanen

We often talk about great studs when we look and study the old pedigrees. But how about those wonderful bitches who have produced some of the most beautiful papillons in the breed history.

One of my favorite papillon bitches from England is red-white ENG CH Hendikay Gaytime of Caswell who was born 10th July 1976. This wonderful bitch was owned and bred by Jenny Scovell from the Caswell kennels.

Few days ago I wrote about the legendary stud dog ENG CH Charthacoombe Tristam. Well ENG CH Hendikay Gaytime of Caswell is his daughter of course. But how was Gaytimes dam Quinetta Diedre then bred? Interstingly she is CH Picaroon Salto daughter who is sired by Picaroon Giotto, again a CH Picaroon Urbino son ( by CH Picaroon Ambrose) and CH Picaroon Saltos dam being Picaroon Pantalettes , who is sired CH Picaroon Pan, also CH Picaroon Urbino son. Quinetta Diedres dam was Polaway Piroutte who was sired by CH Picaroon Avocat D´Enfer ( a CH Picaroon Urbino grandson) and Irora Emerald.

I am enclosing a lovely headshot picture (by Diane Pearce) of CH Hendikay Gaytime of Caswell with her three ENG CH puppies, litters sisters ENG CH Caswell Gay Gontender and ENG CH Caswell Gay Coppelia, born 1979 and ENG CH Caswell Gay Claudine (born 1982, and dam to ENG CH Caswell Court Jester)). I have to mention that ENG CH Caswell Gay Coppelia continued the quality tradition by producing five ENG CH´s , Caswell Copernicus, Caswell Carminetta, Caswell Coppelita, Caswell Copper Tiger and Caswell Classic Touch.

This beautiful bitch Gaytime made her mark to the breed and makes me everytime silent when I look pictures of her children and grandchildren. I remember nearly 30 yrs ago when I saw her grandson ENG CH Caswell Principality winning BOB at Crufts, held at Earls Court, under the breeder judge Pat Munn (Ringlands). He was something special indeed and will always remember that dog and that day.
